Cannot reconnect deleted mailbox
Using SBS 2003, Exchange 2003.
I deleted a user from SBS Server Management Console, which of course marked
the mailbox to be deleted. I recreated the same username but I'm not able to
reconnect the mailbox to be deleted to the username I want.
According to this article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/274343 it looks
fairly simple to reconnect a mailbox. The problem is that when I click to
reconnect and type in the username, the username is not found. I can look in
AD users console and this particular user exists under one of my groups. The
strange thing is that none of the users in a certain container show in the
Reconnect to User box, but some users in a different group DO appear.
How can I get this particular username to show in the Reconnect field?
Thanks.

Is the user mail- or mailbox-enabled? It can't be. Remove all Exchange
attributes from the user and then see if it appears when you try to
reconnect.

Not sure if you meant to somewhere else, I just did this in the Server
Management console.
When I look at the two groups in AD (the one which shows every user in the
Reconnect screen, and the group who's users do NOT show) and the security
properties are identical for both.

My point is that you can't connect a user to a disconnected mailbox if that
user account is either mail- or mailbox-enabled. You must right-click the
user and select to Remove Exchange Attributes before it can be used as a
connected account.
However, SBS often does things differently, so I suggest that you post your
question to an SBS newsgroup since they're better familiar with the wizards
and processes for user management in SBS.
