I subscribe to a stand alone News Server and frequently, when I take too long reading posts, the server disconnects. I remember that in the olden Modem days I had an "Inactivity Pinger" which just sent out data bits at configurable intervals, thus resetting the inactivity timer on the other end. Don't remember the name of it and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for one

Re my orginal post about outlook express only printing the down to subject line and the rest it does not print any of the body of the message. Tonight I found that IE explore on a web site with print preview only shows the top and bottom and the rest is blank. No prpblems with Firefox or Chome. Also Thunderbird work fine. Sure would like to know what caused the printing problems in these

When I send an email with PHOTO as file attachment the recipient does not receive the email,however when sent with a DOCUMENT file attachment or without a file attachment the email is received OK. - What is the problem? - help required!

Hello, I am very worried, because after I compacted all folders I note that email from Inbox a big number of them from may 2011 until today was disappeared. Before that I was done all your instruction for Sent Items.dbx , because Sent Items has become corrupt, instruction from Bruce Hagen 2008. I didn't cancel or do nothing regarding Inbox items. There is a solutions for my problem?

Hey there, Just yesterday, it seems emails are being sent from my email address that say RSET QUIT about once every 1-5 minutes. They do not show up in my sent folder, but people are reporting getting them. Any ideas?

Someone suggested using outlook for my emails. I have 2003 and arranged my verizon account to link to it. All my emails initially went in there yesterday (hundreds). When I opened it today it is empty. There is no file in recycle bin and all other previous suggestions do not seem to help. I run Vista w/SP2 installed. Thanks for any help!

Hi, I am trying to set up a message rule where messages to a certain person should be moved into a specified folder, but OE will not allow me to select "Inbox" as the specified folder (the "OK" button is grayed out for "Inbox", "Outbox", and "Sent Items". Is there any way I can get messages to a certain person to be placed into the Inbox? Further information: This is for my gmail

Problem is not solved. I applied the following method, To resolve this behavior, rename the affected .mbx file, and then restart Outlook Express: Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders. In the Named box, type Inbox.mbx or Inbox.dbx. In the Look in box, click your primary hard disk (usually drive C), and then click Find Now. Right-click the Inbox.mbx file that appears

Here's a quick question... When I hit "send and receive"...I get the status window as it checks all my accounts. But when done, I am left with this error message (about 4 times): An unknown error has occurred. On the Spelling tab in Tools-Options, the box is checked to always ignore the original text in a reply or forward. So how come it checks the stuff it's not supposed to, like the original text to the right of the black line in a reply?

Why is it that occasionally, when checking for new email, a box comes up requesting a password (which is already filled in). It has happened to me a number of times in the past and today it happened on my wife's computer, for which I have been nagged all day! Usually this goes away if the OK option is selected. Peter

My OE6 has suddenly stopped saving my "sent" emails in the sent folder although this option is still selected under tools/options/send. (I tried deleting some of the earliest emails, incase that was a problem) Anyone got any idea what may have happened? Thx Peter

After learning how to set up a second email identity in Outlook Express, and getting it to work on my sons PC, I wanted to install a second identity on my own PC too (because we are both in the process of changing providers). Outlook Express has a checkbox option to send email to a specific address book entry using Plain Text Only. I don't see any equivalent entry for Outlook 2007 in the Address Book. I am having problems with changing my provider in OE. OE is working fine with my present provider, but I am in the process of changing my provider. So I want to be able to temporary access both providers, if possible. I made a new account for my new provider, but my problem is that OE keeps on asking the logon for my new provider. I have IE8, and I just started using OE to look at the NG archive on news.eternal-september.org. It has been a long time since I used OE to look at NGs. I don't remember all the ins-and-outs of OE. One (and only one) of several NGs that I subscribe to is displayed in red. What is that telling me about that NG?

Hello, I like to keep all my messages in one place under my control so I can see what I posted throughout history. Therefore it would be nice if Windows Live Mail could access populair web forum boards like phpbb and that sort of thing. Then I can post from within outlook express so my messages get stored in storage folders. Just like hotmail can be accessed with windows live

How Do I Re-locate OE mailboxes? I tried Options>Tools>Maintenance>Store Folder>folder location, and used it to get access to all the .dbx files, which I then copied to my new location. Then I changed the path in OE's folder location to my new location. Then I tried a send to myself. It seemed to send okay, and Windows Explorer clearly shows the modify date for the .dbx file changed.

Is there a quick and easy way to filter emails from anyone in my address book into a folder, so as to leave only emails from anyone I don't know in my inbox. (I am trying to avoid putting all email addresses in one at a time, then having to manually add any new ones) Pete

I just noticed after all these years that on the Inbox message list the little arrow indicating that the message has been replied to doesn't appear if the reply went to the Drafts folder before being sent. This is not the end of Western Civilization as we know it, but I guess I'll have to do further checking to verify if I replied to a given message.

When I log on am advised I have say 2 unread mail messages...and sure enough in the Inbox are two unread messages. However I have a few message rules set up that moves incoming messages to various subfolders...so the say 20 unread messages are shown scattered around in the list of appropriate sub folders. Any way I can be advised I have say 22 unread messages when I log on? Thanks,

Just upgraded to Windows XP SP3 (from SP2) And now notice the OE "you have mail" tray envelope icon is changed. As are a lot of other ICONS in SP3 It all works the same. and the new icon pops up when there is mail,...but,... Is there any way to restore the old one,....as I just am used to it. I've hard disabling antivirus email scanning might help with timed out pop3 problems But I'm not really sure how to do that in nod32. I see Protection of email client (turned on) Inside that: Email Clients with several check boxes (incoming, outcoming) and I've disabled those. I decided to block a sender in one of the newsgroups, but the person continued to show up even after I exited Outlook Express and reopened it. I then put that sender into my Message Rules killfile, and that got rid of the current post (and presumably all others as well). So...my question is: Why did the person's posts continue to show up after I used Block Sender? Thank you!

I found the Microsoft position about this at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883355/en-us I suggested a workaround to force Windows Mail to encode a mp3 audio file and use it as background sound, but it is quite long and complicate, as it involves saving the e-mail to an .eml file, manually editing it.
